Precautions for Onsen Water

– Bathing & Drinking –

Bathing

① Refrain from bathing right before or after meals, including alcohol consumption.

② If you’re feeling fatigued, skip the bath and rest instead.

③ Wait at least 30 minutes after exercising before taking a bath.

④ Seniors, children, and individuals with physical disabilities should not bathe alone.

⑤ Before immersing yourself in the tub, pour water over your body, starting from your extremities, to acclimate to the heat and wash off any dirt.

⑥ Drink a glass of water before the bath to prevent dehydration, particularly right after waking up.

Bath Temperature: Seniors with hypertension, heart conditions, or those who’ve suffered a stroke should avoid water hotter than 42 degrees Celsius.

Bathing Method: Individuals with cardiopulmonary issues should opt for hip or partial baths rather than submerging their entire body.

Bathing Frequency: Limit your baths to 1-2 times daily. Once acclimated to the Onsen, you may bathe 2-3 times daily.

Bathing Duration: While it varies based on water temperature, baths should generally last 3-10 minutes. Once accustomed, you can extend this to 15-20 minutes.

① Enjoy your bath with gentle movements, except when specifically exercising.

② When exiting the bath, move slowly to prevent dizziness.

③ If you feel lightheaded or unwell, exit the tub gradually, keeping your head lowered, and seek assistance from those nearby.

① Avoid rinsing off the beneficial minerals from the hot spring water. After your bath, pat dry and rest for about 30 minutes.

However, if you have sensitive skin, rinse off the Onsen minerals with warm water, especially after acidic or sulfuric springs or if the water contains chlorine.

② Drink a glass of water after your bath to stay hydrated.

Extended bathing can sometimes lead to:

discomfort, insomnia, digestive issues, or skin irritation lasting for several days to a week.

If you experience these symptoms, take a break from bathing, reduce the frequency, and allow yourself time to recover.

To maintain water cleanliness, please do not place towels in the bathtub.
